Canavan is one of C&C stars
Organised by the Gaelic Players’ Association, the deals signed with each of the players go beyond a simple endorsement according to the head of the GPA, Dessie Farrell.
“Further to what has already been reported, this deal is not just an endorsement deal. There is more to it than that, details of which we will announce at the press conference.”
The 10 players will receive 2,250 for their image rights, and the deal will see the players’ being used on billboards across the country.
Among the other players reported to be signed up include DJ Carey, Seamus Moynihan, Cork’s wonderkid Setanta O hAilpin, Armagh’s Paul
McGrane and Tipperary’s Tommy Dunne. Two Dublin players, one from each code, are also thought to be among those signed up by C&C, footballer Jason Sherlock and hurler Conal Keaney while Galway’s Sean Óg de Paor is also reported to be part of the endorsement deal.
Farrell said there was no trouble with Croke Park about using the stadium to launch the campaign, and he said the associations weren’t at odds about the recent sponsored hurls controversy.
“I don’t think we were at loggerheads with Croke Park over that. In fact, we were singing from the same hymn sheet, we both thought the players had been exploited,” Farrell said.
