Henry set for Dublin recall

DAVID HENRY, controversially dropped from the Dublin football team for the Bank of Ireland Leinster semi final, is likely to be recalled for next Saturday’s glamour All-Ireland qualifier with Derry at Clones.

Henry set for Dublin recall

Manager Tommy Lyons surprised Dublin supporters by omitting Henry from the starting line-up for the Laois game in which the Dubs came a cropper.

The stylish defender performed well at corner back during the league and was one of Dublin’s better players at wing back in their championship victory over Louth.

Now however, with Barry Cahill out of the equation due to a cruciate ligament injury, it is almost certain that Henry will be pencilled in when the Dublin team is selected either tomorrow night or just before the start of the game.

Right corner back Paul Griffen and centre back Jonathon McGee, both of whom were injured in the Laois match, are expected to be fit to play but left half forward Bryan Cullen and left corner forward Liam og hEineachain could find their places under threat following indifferent performances in the provincial semi final.

Should the axe descend on them Senan Connell would be in pole position to take over from Cullen, while it would appear to be a straight fight between John McNally and Dessie Farrell to fill the left corner berth should it become vacant.

Injury-hit Cavan have been forced to make a number of changes for Sunday’s All-Ireland qualifier with Fermanagh at Enniskillen.

Goalkeeper James Reilly, centre back Peter Reilly and corner forward Joey Jordan have all been ruled and their places will be taken by Arron O’Donoghue, Anthony Forde and Jason Reilly respectively.

The Cavan selectors have also been forced to leave a vacancy at left corner forward in the hope that Gerald Pierson will have recovered from a hamstring injury in time to play.

The return of Jason Reilly will be a big boost to Cavan in this time of tribulation for them. His side’s leading goalscorer Reilly was out of action for eight weeks with a groin strain but came on as a sub against Antrim in the Ulster championship quarter final.
