Nemo retain intermediate crown as Carbery crumble in second-half

NEMO RANGERS won the permanent tsb Cork County IFC title for the second time in two years at floodlit Páirc Uí Rinn yesterday.

A period of complete dominance in the third quarter sowed the seeds for Nemo's latest triumph and left their final opponents Carbery floundering, Nemo winning 3-6 to 1-10.

It was all square at the break but Nemo rose to the challenge better after the resumption and were justifiably crowned champions.

BRAVO Ballygarvan, bravo Kilbrin. But only one winner could emerge from an absorbing permanent tsb Cork County JHC semi-final second replay at Páirc Uí Rinn yesterday and to Ballygarvan went the spoils, 2-20 to 1-20 after extra-time, after nearly four hours of super hurling action.

But how the men from the south east had to battle to first force the game into extra-time and then produce the extra energy to cruelly deny Kilbrin in a game that will long be remembered.

With Kilbrin leading 1-15 to 0-10 with eight minutes remaining it looked all over. But then it all went wrong as Ballygarvan showed the real meaning of commitment with a mighty last surge.

Scorers: Ballygarvan: L Dillon 1-12 (0-8 frees, 0-1 '65), G White 1-0, G Spillane, K Ashman 0-2 each, S O'Leary, A Butler, C Conchuir, S White. Kilbrin: D Crowley 0-7 (0-4 frees), D Breen 1-0, I O'Sullivan 0-4, D Aherne 0-3, S O'Riordan, N O'Reilly (0-3 '65s) 0-2 each, T McMahon, N O'Callaghan 0-1 each.

VINCENT HURLEY contributed 12 points as Courcey Rovers, just 24 hours after winning the Carrigdhoun final, blitzed Douglas 1-15 to 1-5 in their Cork Co JAFC quarter-final at Riverstick yesterday to qualify for a semi-final clash with Adrigole next Sunday.

In the throes of a hectic campaign that included the final of the IHC involving 13 of their starting line-up and then the divisional final replay at Kinsale on Saturday when they beat Tracton 1-6 to 0-4, one would have expected Courcey Rovers to be a little battle weary. But there was hardly a sign of fatigue.

Scorers: Courcey Rovers: V Hurley 0-12 (0-7 frees), S Hayes 1-0, J Murphy 0-2, T Lordan 0-1.

Douglas: C. Hogan 1-1, D Meade 0-2, P Tobin and P O'Sullivan (free) 0-1 each.

AGHABULLOGUE advanced to the Cork JFC 'A' semi-final and a meeting with Bride Rovers after a gritty 0-8 to 0-5 win over Tadhg MacCarthaigh at Ballineen on Saturday.

Scorers: Aghabullogue: J Hogan 0-4 (0-3 frees), P Kelleher, D Buckley, D Kiely, B Kiely 0-1 each. Tadhg MacCárthaigh; M McCarthy 0-4 (0-3 frees), C O'Driscoll 0-1.

NO disputing the identity of the new North Cork U21A champions after Newtownshandrum's emphatic 4-14 to 2-7 victory over Doneraile at Charleville on Saturday.

Scorers: Newtownshandrum: J Bowles 2-11 (0-6 frees); C Naughton 2-1; D Naughton, F Young (free), 0-1 each. Doneraile: B Sheehan 2-5 (2-3 frees); J O'Callaghan 0-2.

THE Tim Sheehan Cup, a trophy in memory of Brian Corcoran's grandfather, is sitting in Blarney's trophy cabinet after their 2-14 to 0-5 win over Carrigaline in the Cork Co Minor AHC final at Páirc Uí Chaoímh.

Scorers: Blarney: S Vickery 2-0, P Nodwell 0-5 (0-2 frees), B Deasy, J Jordan (65s), J Hallahan 0-2 each, R Pinfield, S Twomey, D Quirke 0-1 each. Carrigaline: S. Corcoran (frees), J Moran (frees) 0-2 each, G Harrington 0-1.
