SEAN KELLY used his speech to get in a discreet dig at the Ulster Council chairman Michael Greenan, who strongly opposed the decision to amend Rule 42 last year and allow soccer and rugby be played in Croke Park.

Greenan, a former referee and ex-Cavan chairman, made no secret of his animosity towards the outgoing President - remaining seated when Kelly was given a standing ovation after delivering his final address on Saturday.

In the course of informing delegates that he had been unable to take up an invitation to attend the funeral of soccer legend George Best, the former President said: “it was appropriate that the Association was represented by a man of diverse sporting experiences, Ulster Chairman Michael Greenan.”
