Peter Casey mightn’t be as bullish as Alan Connolly but there’s no question about his ambition as Limerick’s Munster SHC campaign returned to the tracks on Sunday.

In his 10th inter-county senior season, the 28-year-old has 13 medals including five Celtic Crosses and as many Munster accolades but his appetite isn’t sated.

“Listen, there’s a short window there over your inter-county career and you want to win as much as you can. And, thankfully, we won the league this year, but listen, we want to win more. And it's as simple as that.

“We're not silly either. We want to give it game by game. The Munster championship is the Munster championship. It's so hard to get out of. So all eyes now are just simply focused on Waterford now in two weeks’ time.”

Dwelling on the pluses from their opening Munster SHC defeat to Cork was key for Limerick in the build-up to beating Clare, Casey says. The result didn’t fully equate with the team’s performance.

“That was the main theme going out on Tuesday night and Friday night training. Listen, there were loads of positives in it as well. Of course, obviously the result didn't go away but we just leaned on the positives more so than the negatives.”

Captain Cian Lynch and Aaron Gillane may not have been available, but they still made their presence felt.

“The two boys are obviously huge figures inside the dressing room for us,” Casey highlights.

“So obviously, they have small little nuggets of information that they can pass on. The one thing that we have as a group is we really trust our panel and it's kind of just next man up.

“Obviously, it was unfortunate for Cian and unfortunate for Aaron to miss (the Clare game), but as I said it's just next man up. And so, we have huge trust in all the group.”

With Lynch available to face Waterford and Gillane also expected to be fit, the Na Piarsaigh man knows the battle for starting places is going to heat up.

He mentions how Aidan O’Connor’s versatility and Shane O’Brien scoring 10 points from play in two games.

“Aido played as a half-forward last week and in the full-forward line this week, and he was equally as good. So it's just brilliant to have that competition day-in, day-out.”

Echoing his manager John Kiely’s sentiments, Casey is hoping Limerick people turn out in force at the upcoming games in TUS Gaelic Grounds.

“Listen, I suppose the crowd and the fans that we have that have been following us for the last numerous years, as always, are unbelievable. No doubt they'll turn up in their thousands again in the next two weeks.

“Listen, we know how important home games are in this round-robin, so it's just really important that we do lean on them and that they do get out for us and support us in the next couple of weeks as well because we are going to need them.”
