Delighted reaction as Irish snooker player Fergal O’Brien makes first ever 147

Irishman Fergal O’Brien made the first maximum break of his professional career today, while playing in the Championship League.

Previously O’Brien’s best break had been 143 but he went the full distance this afternoon.

The Championship League is a non-ranking snooker tournament held at the Crondon Park Golf Club annually since 2008.

43-year-old O’Brien has been a member of snooker's main tour since turning professional in 1991 and is currently ranked 34 in the World Snooker rankings.

He won the British Open in 1999.

Snooker fans reacted with delight to the Dubliner’s first 147.

Ronnie O'Sullivan wouldn't be too impressed with his reward though - The 147 is set to earn O'Brien £500.
