This fist-bumping little hero will make your Friday

American hockey team the Boston Bruins were paying a lot of attention to one particular guest at their NHL game against the Florida Panthers on Tuesday and we can understand why.

Eight-year-old super-fan Liam Fitzpatrick has Downs Syndrome and was also diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia when he was four. He battled the illness for more than three years before getting the all-clear and still faces more health issues in his life.

His mother Christine Fitzgerald told boston.com more about his strength and love of life.

“It amazes me, given what he’s gone through in his eight years of living”, said Christine. “Soon, he will start growth hormones every day. It doesn’t phase him. He just goes on.

“People tell us he’s so cute, and this and that. He was given to us to raise and given to the world to love.”

Liam is a devoted Boston Bruins fan and they have taken the brave young boy into their hearts.

Before the game Bruins star Patrice Bergeron stopped to have a chat about tactics and Liam has also gotten to meet his other hero, Adam McQuaid.

“He brings joy to people,” said his proud mum. “There’s something about him that draws people to him. His smile, his personality. He’s just such a joyful person.”
