“We take our responsibility to deliver the highest standards of coverage to our viewers,” an ESPN statement read, condemning Champion’s reference to the Uruguayan’s goal.

“Comments during the Mansfield v Liverpool match caused offence where none was intended and we have spoken to our commentator about this incident.”

While debate has continued about the goal and indeed Champion's comments throughout the day, here is our nod to those who provide the backing-track to our viewing.

We’re allowed to be a little biased, aren’t we? The excitement and emotion in Ryle Nugent’s crackling voice made the climax to the 2009 Grand Slam win all the more special for those of us who couldn’t make it to the Millenium Stadium.
