Katie's father treating Olympics like any other tournament

Pete Taylor is treating the Olympic Games the same as any other tournament that his daughter Katie boxes in.

Katie won her lightweight quarter-final against GB's Natasha Jonas 26-15 in the ExCel Arena in London today and has set up a semi-final against Chorieva Movzena of Tajikistan at 2pm on Wednesday.

The whole of Ireland was following her progress in the ring today and the pressure must be immense on the Bray fighter, but her father has not changed anything in their preparation for the games.

Peter Taylor said: "Same as we always do if we box in any other tournament, same routine, same nerves."

More than 6,000 Irish turned up to support Katie in the ExCel Arena, something that impressed Katie.

She said: "It is hard not to get excited with that crowd, it's amazing, I think I definitely had more support than the GB girl."

Her father was also impressed but stressed that it had not put any more pressure on his daughter than usual.

He said: "It was unbelieveable, we have experienced that before in the O2, so it wasn't a shock to her because she has done that when she was in the O2. It stood to her big time.

"Hopefully, everyone is there for the next bout and we get the same support."
