Taylor going for gold

Katie Taylor has said she is determined to win the gold for Ireland in the women's lightweight boxing at the London Olympics.

It comes after she won her fight against Great Britain's Natasha Jonas with a massive score of 26-15 to send her into a semi-final on Wednesday.

Talyor said: "I am going for the gold medal, nothing else."

Afte her fight today, nobody would bet against her getting that gold, but she beleives that she still has to improve and follow the orders from her father Peter in her corner.

She said: "I wasn't doing what I was told in the second round, I was getting caught."

The Irish support for the Bray fighter was immense in the Excel Arena and Taylor recognised that.

She said: "I try not to play up to the crowd too much, I would burn out too much energy, so I will try and relax all the way through. It is hard not to get excited with that crowd, it's amazing, I think I definitely had more support than the GB girl."

Talyor now faces a fight against Chorieva Movzena of Tajikistan at 2pm on Wednesday.
