Mills decides against appeal

Joanna Mills has decided not to appeal yesterday's decision to leave her out of the Ireland Women's 4x400m relay team in the London Olympics.

She was dropped after Caitriona Cuddihy successfully counter-appealed to the Olympic Council of Ireland, following Athletics Ireland's decision to bring Mills back into the team.

The Ballymena and Antrim athlete still feels she should be travelling to London, as she is faster than Cuddihy this year.

Mills had said yesterday that she needed to decide whether or not to she would appeal the decision - an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Cuddihy was initially named in a six-strong squad for the Games ahead of Mills, whose seasonal best was better than Cuddihy’s, leading to Mills successfully appealing the decision.

But Cuddihy’s original selection was based on a number of different criteria, including experience at major championships, and her appeal against Mills’ inclusion at her expense was upheld by an Athletics Ireland Appeal Panel in Dublin on Monday.
