Ireland's athletes are 10th of the 12 competing nations after the opening day's events in the European Team Championships 1st League in Izmir, Turkey.

They have accumulated 121 points and lie just ahead of Slovenia and Croatia, with the men's 4x100 metres relay team their top performers. The quartet, headed by 200m specialist Paul Hession, clocked 39.61 seconds for third place and 10 points towards Ireland's total.
