Powell clocks sub 10 second 100m on return

Asafa Powell clocked 9.96 seconds in Port of Spain yesterday as the former 100 metres world record holder returned to action after injury at the Trinidad national championships.

The 25-year-old Jamaican sprinter pulled a chest muscle while weight training in April forcing him to delay the start to his track season.

Powell ran in the semi-final in Port of Spain as a guest and therefore was not eligible to advance to the final.

Countryman Usain Bolt recently clocked 9.72secs at the Reebok Grand Prix in New York to claim the world record, beating Powell’s 9.74.
