Sutherland and Joyce record wins in Italy
Irish boxers Darren Sutherland and David Oliver Joyce have both recorded victories in the preliminary rounds of the Olympic qualifying tournament in Italy.
Sutherland stopped Scottish middleweight James Quigley on the 20-point rule in round three of his bout, while featherweight Joyce staged a comeback to see off his Armenian opponent 37-21.
Elsewhere, John Joe McDonagh, from the Brosna club in Offaly, bowed out of the tournament after a 14-4 reversal to Latvian Dmitri Sostaks., while Clonmel heavyweight Con Sheehan lost to Illias Pavlidis from Greece.
