Hamilton confident over Belgian GP chances
Lewis Hamilton remains “pretty confident” for tomorrow’s Belgian Grand Prix, despite being off the front row of the grid for only the second time in the last 10 races.
World championship leader Hamilton starts fourth behind McLaren team-mate Fernando Alonso and an all-Ferrari front row for the first time this year.
There is now every danger of Hamilton’s slender three-point lead over Alonso being whittled down further by the end of the 44-lap race at the Spa circuit.
Despite that, Hamilton is comfortable with his grid position, and is not too concerned about how events might unfold tomorrow.
“It was a decent qualifying for us and I think that we did a good job,” said Hamilton.
“The first session wasn’t great, but I made some improvements to my driving and managed to find the time in the second session, while I thought my final lap was really good, with no mistakes.
“It is always possible to win, and I am pretty confident that I have a strong strategy.
“We knew the Ferraris would be quick, so it will be an interesting race.
“Anything can happen on the way down to the first corner (La Source hairpin) and obviously there is a long straight where you can overtake.”
