Speed blasts Toro Rosso bosses
Scott Speed has ripped into his bosses at Toro Rosso, claiming they “are pushing like hell” to get rid of him and team-mate Vitantonio Liuzzi.
Co-owner Gerhard Berger certainly made no secret of the fact on Friday the team are hoping to recruit triple ChampCar champion Sebatstien Bourdais and 19-year-old BMW Sauber tester Sebastian Vettel for next season.
With seven races remaining this season – and Toro Rosso without a point to date - Speed believes he and Liuzzi are being offered no support from Berger and team boss Franz Tost.
Speaking to speedtv.com, Speed said: “Gerhard and Franz have their own ideas about what they want to do with their future, and they say things accordingly.
“That’s nothing to do with my performance on the track, that’s for sure. It’s clear from my bosses, me and Tonio both have very little support.
“It’s been that way for the last two years, and it’s a lot more now. At some point I said I don’t care. If I’m not in F1 next year, if I’m with a different team, it’s okay for me.
“It’s actually made me a lot more relaxed and a lot more calm, and I think I’m producing better results actually.”
As a parting shot, Speed added: “It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to read the press and know Franz and Gerhard are pushing like hell to get rid of me and Tonio.”
