Silverstone ready for rain
Silverstone chiefs are confident they are prepared for the worst should the British Grand Prix be hit by rain this weekend.
Circuit officials took precautionary action today to preserve a number of temporary public car parks being used.
Although it led to traffic disruption for fans making their way to the Northamptonshire circuit for the practice sessions, bosses are confident problems will be limited tomorrow and on Sunday.
Richard Phillips, managing director of Silverstone Circuits Limited, said: “We’ve been keeping a close eye on the weather throughout the last few weeks and have undertaken considerable contingency measures.
“Following further rainfall on Thursday evening, we implemented additional contingency plans to preserve and protect a number of car parks.
“We have to take a sensible and measured approach to getting spectators in and out of the circuit.
“While the changeable weather doesn’t offer any guarantees, we have given ourselves the best possible chance of successfully managing vehicle movements over the weekend.
“The enjoyment of our spectators is of paramount importance and, in light of the weather conditions, we are doing everything possible to ensure the customer experience is not compromised.
“Again, we would like to thank the fans in advance for their understanding and co-operation over the next few days. I am confident they will all enjoy a fantastic British Grand Prix.”
