Five Irish boxers set for Euro finals

All five Irish boxers have made this mornings weigh-in for this afternoons European Union Championships finals at the National Stadium in Dublin.

The Irish team led by captain Ken Egan will be in action today in five of eleven deciders at the South Circular Road venue.

Ireland has the highest representation of any of the European Union Nations in today's finals which begin at 2pm.

Featherweight Carl Frampton,from the Midlands White City club in Belfast, will be the first Irish boxer in the ring against Khedafi Djelkhir of France and St Michael's Athy welterweight Roy Sheahan will meet Xavier Noel also of France.

Darren Sutherland, of the St Saviours OBA club in Dublin, will contest middleweight gold against English number one James Degale, and Irish skipper Ken Egan (Neilstown Dublin) faces Constantin Bejenaru from Romania in the light heavyweight final.

Irish Super heavyweight Cathal McMonagle,of the Holy Trinity club in Belfast, clashes with Italian Roberto Cammarelle.

The Italian is ranked in the top three in the World and has won two bronze medals at 2004 Olympics and 2005 World Championships on top of claiming silver at the European Championships.

Coaches Billy Walsh and Zuar Antia will be in the Irish teams corner this afternoon.
