Joyce wins recall to Ireland cricket squad

Ireland have named a squad of 13 for their forthcoming Friends Provident Trophy games against Middlesex and Glamorgan.

The game with Middlesex at Clontarf on June 10 could feature a number of reunions.

Ed Joyce and Eoin Morgan are both expected to be included in the visitors' line up.

Morgan has been in prolific form of late in the competition, scoring 100 against Middlesex and 76 versus Somerset.

Joyce, who played 50 times for Ireland, helping them qualify for the 2007 World Cup before switching his allegiance to England, is expected to open the batting.

In the corresponding fixture last season, he top scored for Middlesex with 95 as they beat Ireland by 9 wickets.

The Irish top scorer that day was Dominick Joyce, and he has won a recall to the international side after almost a year in the wilderness.

His last appearance was in the historic ODI at Stormont on June 13, a game which saw his brother make his England debut.

The 25-year-old has played 66 times for Ireland, scoring 1480 runs at an average 23.49 with 11 half centuries.

He has made a very successful start to the domestic campaign with Merrion, and that has earned him his opportunity.

Coach Phil Simmons said: "The selectors and myself felt that Dom has earned the chance to show what he can do. Although he has played a lot of games for Ireland, he's still only 25 and has his best years as a batsman in front of him.

"Alex Cusack has also been playing well and fully deserves his chance. It's no secret that I had identified a second overseas player whom I hoped to include, but unfortunately there was a commitment clash, and he was unable to play in both of the games.

"Jeremy has been rested ahead of the forthcoming series of ODI's at the end of the month, and Dave Langford-Smith hasn't fully recovered from his side injury."

The squad is as follows:

Trent Johnston (Railway Union) Captain

Kenny Carroll (Railway Union)

Alex Cusack (Clontarf)

Thinus Fourie (Merrion)

Peter Gillespie (Strabane)

Nantie Hayward (Overseas)

Dominick Joyce (Merrion)

Kyle McCallan (Waringstown)

Kevin O' Brien (Railway Union)

William Porterfield (Rush)

Roger Whelan (Railway Union)

Andrew White (Instonians)

Gary Wilson (Surrey)
