Ireland players help police in Woolmer murder investigation
Ireland’s cricketers have given statements as well as fingerprints and DNA samples to police investigating the murder of Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer.
They co-operated with routines of the investigation last night – following their final World Cup fixture in Grenada – just as their Pakistan counterparts did before they left the tournament on March 25.
During their Cup campaigns, both teams stayed in the same Kingston hotel where Woolmer was found unconscious in his room on the morning of March 18.
An Ireland statement today confirmed: “The management and players have co-operated fully with the police, and are happy to assist them in any way we can during the course of their investigation.
“These tests were carried out with a view to eliminating the Ireland squad from their inquiries.”
The statement continued: “We would like to stress that on the evening of the Woolmer murder no member of the Irish squad were actually in the hotel.
“They were attending a celebration St Patrick’s Day party in Ocho Rios, some 50 miles away.”
