Harrison in weight row

WBO featherweight title holder Scott Harrison has become embroiled in a row with his management team following suggestions he struggles to make the weight.

After defending his belt against Nedal Hussein in Glasgow at the weekend, Frank Warren and Frank Maloney called for the Cambuslang boxer to move up a weight division.

But Harrison refuses to be pressured into a decision.

“I will decide when I move up to super-featherweight, not anyone else, not Warren or Maloney,” he told the Scottish Daily Express.

“It’s my body and I will know myself when I am no longer capable of making the featherweight weight limit.”

Harrison’s father and trainer, Peter Harrison, backed his fighter, adding: “They are based in London, so what do they know?

“While Scott was training at Fort William they didn’t even bother to come and visit the training camp.

“There are three people who will play a part in whether Scott moves up a weight or not and the person who knows best is Scott himself. How can anyone else know how he is feeling?

“Number two is Dr Niall MacFarlane of Glasgow University who monitors Scott’s training to ensure that he loses weight safely.

“Then there is myself. I am his father and I have his best interests at heart and believe me when I say he has no trouble making the weight.”

Maloney played down the row, saying: “If Scott wants to continue fihting at featherweight, I will respect that.

“But we all have an opinion and I expressed mine.”
