Ukraine and Russia claim top spots in Dublin marathon

For the first time in its history, a Ukrainian national has won the Dublin City Marathon, which was the biggest race since the competition’s heyday in the mid 1980s.

For the first time in its history, a Ukrainian national has won the Dublin City Marathon, which was the biggest race since the competition’s heyday in the mid 1980s.

Ten thousand professional and amateur athletes took to the streets but it was Dmytro Osadchy for the Ukraine who claimed first place.

The South African Neo Molena came second and Russian Oleg Belhovets finished in third place.

The women’s marathon also saw winners from Russia and the Ukraine, with Zina Semenova coming first for Russia and Ukrainian Olga Nevkapsa finishing in third place.

The leading Irish racers were Gary Crossan who finished in 13 place and Paraic McKinney who came close in 14 place.

In the wheelchair race, John Glynn finished first for the men while Patrice Dockery claimed the women’s prize.
