BRDC bid to save Silverstone

The British Racing Drivers’ Club has called a board meeting in the hope of finding a way to revive talks to save the British Grand Prix.

The future of the race is looking bleak after Formula One chief Bernie Ecclestone broke off negotiations with the BRDC, the event’s organisers, because of their unwillingness to meet his terms.

The Silverstone race has only been included on the 2005 race calendar subject to his conditions being agreed and Ecclestone has claimed he is running out of patience with the BRDC.

The two parties have been at loggerheads since Silverstone was originally left off next season’s provisional calendar last month.

Ecclestone claims he has made significant concessions on his original demands and does not intend to wait any longer. He says he is now starting to consider offers from prospective venues in other countries.

BRDC president Jackie Stewart claims Ecclestone is being unreasonable but has not given up hope of saving the race.
