McKiernan announces retirement from Athletics

Catherina McKiernan has announced her retirement from competitive running.

The 34-year-old Cavan women won gold in the 1994 European Cross Country Championships and four World Cross Country silver medals.

She also claimed victory in the London, Amsterdam and Berlin Marathons.

McKiernan has decided to bring the curtain down on her career in the Annalee 10k road race in Cavan on Sunday.
