Britain's sports minister Richard Caborn today ruled out any government money to save the British Grand Prix – but claimed a settlement between the two rival parties is within touching distance.

Caborn believes the gap between Formula One’s demands and Silverstone’s owners’ offer is only £800,000 (€1.15m) – not the £3m (€4.3m) claimed by the British Racing Drivers Club (BRDC) who own the circuit – and he said: “That’s about what Michael Schumacher earns every minute he is on the track.”
