Gleneagle Lakers end Cup drought
Gleneagle Lakers recorded their first Cup victory in seven years, putting in a huge performance to defeat Shamrock Rovers 103-77 and booking their place in the quarter-finals round.
Neptune provided the upset in Tralee, putting an end to their unbeaten record and enjoying sweet revenge for two defeats delivered by the Tigers earlier this season.
Neptune were never in grave danger of losing this one, opening up an early 11-0 lead to see the Kerrymen chasing the game thereafter, going down 84-75.
Hibernian UCD Marian were unable to reverse their league defeat of last week, going down 84-92 to Dart Killester, making an early exit from the competition.
St Vincent’s put an end to Star’s Cup dreams, defeating the Belfast men 68-81, in a reversal of their recent misfortune.
Mardyke UCC Demons had little problem overthrowing Queens, while Waterford Crystal enjoyed a similar victory against Moycullen. Ballina Braves are the only Division One team remaining in the Senior Men’s Competition, defeating Corinthians 114-86.
In the Senior Women’s Cup, Sligo Warriors failed to travel for their game against St Pauls due to fog, although Killester managed the journey West, defeating the All Stars 88-32.
Tolka Rovers are the only Superleague team to exit the competition, going down 80-44, while there were victories also for Meteors, University of Limerick and Drimnagh Dynamos.
The open draw for the quarter-finals of the Men’s Cup will take place in the ESB Arena tomorrow at 3pm.
