Ireland's Damaen Kelly failed in his bid to land the IBF flyweight title in the early hours of Sunday morning at the Salon Jumbo del Country Club in Barranquilla, Colombia.

IBF champion Irene Pacheco simply proved too strong and former European champion Kelly's brave challenge ended in the seventh round.

Colombian Pacheco, arguably the best flyweight in the world, took his unbeaten record to 30 wins with 23 stoppages.

As for Belfast man Kelly, he will return home and look to rebuild with possibly a long-awaited clash with Liverpool's Peter Culshaw.
