Maloney: Medina in for 'fright of life'
Frank Maloney claims Mexican Manuel Medina will get “the fright of his life” when he climbs into the ring to challenge Scott Harrison for his WBO featherweight title.
Harrison will defend his title at Glasgow's Braehead Arena two ounces heavier than his veteran opponent but his manager insists his physique will unnerve the experienced challenger.
He said: “When you see Scott Harrison tomorrow you’ll be looking at the Incredible Hulk – except he’s not green. He’ll be bursting out of his shirt tomorrow, it’ll be incredible.
“Medina is a good old campaigner but he must have been looking at Scott at the weigh-in and saying ‘how does he looks this small, he didn’t look this small in the tapes we saw’.
“But he’ll get a fright of his life when he sees the real Scott Harrison. Scott will need a couple of rounds to fathom him out but then his strength and his power will see him through.”
Maloney looks forward to staging more bouts in Scotland after being impressed by the fight scene north of the border.
He said: “I like working with Scott up here and it’s not just Scott, it’s the environment. The atmosphere is first class and since the first time we came here it has improved.
“So let’s hope we can keep Scott here throughout his whole career. It would be an amazing feat if we could and I believe Frank Warren has enough clout to do that.”
Fans are in for an extra treat as British super-featherweight champion Alex Arthur’s long-awaited defence of his belt against Glaswegian Willie Limond finally goes ahead.
Limond has pulled out of meeting Edinburgh-born Arthur twice because of problems with his ear will go head-to-head on the Harrison under card.
Arthur said: “I’ve never been so excited about anything in my life and I don’t know if that’s abnormal or not.
“I’m really looking forward to the fight and when they look back on the record books it’s Alex Arthur’s name they’ll see.
“Willie is a good fighter and you can’t take anything away from him. He’s really skilful, he’s fast and he’s going to put up a great fight.
“I just think I’ve got more advantages than he has and I just can’t see how he can win. I’m really looking forward to it and I just want to get in the ring and rip it up.”
