Lloyd storms into matchplay semis

Colin Lloyd stormed into the World Matchplay semi-finals with an emphatic 16-6 demolition of a disappointing Keith Deller.

Lloyd was far from at his best but there was no need for 'Jaws' to hit the heights as Deller was unable to inject any consistency into his game.

The first leg set the scene for the early exchanges as both players struggled to find their range but a 138 from Lloyd teed him up for a 60 check-out against the throw.

Lloyd took the second leg with a 103 finish but Deller battled back to level at 2-2, although he needed several bites at the cherry to get himself off the mark.

Once Deller squared the match, Lloyd stepped on the gas to power away, although both players were still performing below their peak.

Lloyd capitalised on Deller missing double top to take the fifth leg, and after blowing double eight on four occasions also took the sixth.

After narrowly missing a 130 check-out, Lloyd then threw away the chance to close out the seventh leg with a succession of misses before Deller pounced on the lifeline.

But any thoughts Deller had of drawing level again soon vanished as Lloyd reeled off three legs on the spin, although Deller did throw the first maximum in the tenth leg but that was scant consolation as he slipped further and further into arrears.

Deller was struggling with his first dart every time he stepped up to the oche and when he put himself in a position to win a leg, he could just not make his doubles.

Lloyd continued his relentless march towards the semi-finals clinically checking-out from 70 to wrap up a conclusive triumph.

John Part sauntered into the semi-finals with a devastating display of darts to crush Bob Anderson 16-5 to set up a showdown with Colin Lloyd.

After a sluggish start from the Canadian, he switched on the afterburners to leave his opponent trailing in his slipstream.

Anderson simply had no answer to Part's prowess as the Darth Maple won 11consecutive legs and 15 of the last 16.

'The Limestone Cowboy' was in sizzling form during the early stages of the encounter with a blistering start.

He grabbed the first leg against the throw, although Part followed suit in the next.

From there, Anderson was slick in his throwing with a string of high scores as he reeled off three legs on the spin, showing a penchant for double eight.

Anderson was struggling initially with double 16 but always had the eight to fall back on.

He also notched the first maximum of the tussle with a 180 in the fourth leg en route to extending his advantage.

Part was stunned into action by Anderson's quick-fire advent to the contest and responded with four legs in a row.

The Limestone Cowboy could only manage one further leg in the match as Part turned in the sort of performance that could just give Taylor a run for his money.

Colin Lloyd and John Part now meet in Friday’s second semi-final.
