Jaguar test driver escapes injury
Jaguar test driver James Courtney is undergoing “routine checks” after surviving a massive testing accident at Monza.
The Australian, who leads the British Formula Three Championship, destroyed his Jaguar at the Ascari chicane.
A rear suspension failure pitched him out of control and he careered at high speed into a concrete wall which ripped all four wheels – and most of the bodywork – off the car, leaving Courtney with concussion.
Jaguar spokesman Nav Sidhu said: “James was undertaking some mechanical testing in an old R3 as part of our development for next year’s car.
“On the approach to the Ascari chicane, a rear suspension failure forced him off the track at high speed but, thankfully, James is okay.
“He is undergoing some x-rays and routine checks and all appears to be well. Pedro de la Rosa and Eddie Irvine will continue testing with the revised R3b as planned.”
