Disappointment for Carroll in 5000m
Mark Carroll had a disappointing homecoming in Cork today as he pulled out of the men's 5,000m at the Bupa Ireland Cork City Sports.
Carroll pulled out of the race with two and a half laps to go. The race was won by Willy Kirui of Kenya.
"I'm at a loss to explain how this happened," a disappointed Carroll said after the race.
"I felt very heavy and didn't fell strong or fast during the race. This is only my second race since the fall (autumn) and I need more races.
"I missed the indoor season due to a knee injury and this has had a bigger effect than I thought."
Carroll maintained he would still race in the Golden League meeting on Friday, but may change his other plans.
"I will still race in Rome on Friday but maybe now I will also enter the 1500m at the National Championships in a weeks time. I need the lift," he said.
The 5000m was won by Willy Kirui, in a race dominated by the Kenyans.
