Turkey have a great chance to go in front in the 41st minute when Gilberto Silva brings down Basturk on the edge of the area to earn a yellow card from Danish refree Kim Milton Nielsen.

The resulting free-kick, from Belozoglu is over the bar.

In the 43rd minute, Roberto Carlos breaks down the left with Turkey stretched and cuts inside along edge of the area but with Ronaldo waiting in the area, the Real Madrid defender opts to shoot, right-footed, and straight at Recber.

Turkey are under pressure again in the 45th minute as Rustu spills a cross from Roberto Carlos and has to deny Edmilson.

The Turkish keeper is injured and as he receives treatment a free-for-all between the opposiing players breaks out with Ronaldo at the centre of things.

As the half-time whistle goes there is more pushing and shoving as the players go to their dressing rooms.

It makes for an eventful end to a first half full of goal-scoring opportunities.
