Snooker: Doherty wins battle of the Dubliners

Ireland’s Ken Doherty has beaten his friend and compatriot, Fergal O’Brien, to reach the semi-finals of the Regal Welsh Open in Cardiff today.

O’Brien recorded a break of 116 in the opening frame to take the early lead, but Doherty prevailed in the end to record a 5-3 victory.

Doherty will now meet either John Higgins or Stephen Hendry in his quest to retain the Welsh Open title.
