Formula One: Ferrari make sporting gesture

World champions Ferrari will run unbranded cars during their home grand prix in Italy this weekend as a mark of respect to those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks in the United States.

World champions Ferrari will run unbranded cars during their home grand prix in Italy this weekend as a mark of respect to those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks in the United States.

The cars belonging to four-time champion Michael Schumacher and team-mate Rubens Barrichello will be devoid of sponsors' logos when practice gets underway at Monza.

"Ferrari has taken the decision to show it shares a sense of grief with the American people, with whom it has always felt close ties," said a team statement.

"Therefore, this weekend, for the Italian Grand Prix, with the full agreement of its sponsors, as a mark of respect, its cars will carry no logos relating to its commercial and technical partners.

"For Ferrari and its partners, Sunday's race will be a purely sporting event with no commercial implications, nor will it be a joyful event."

Friday's first practice session has been brought forward by 10 minutes so that the teams can take part in a minute's silence at noon.
