Soccer: Eircom Park ambitions dropped

The Eircom Park dream is now over after the FAI announced its decision to accept the Government’s proposals and join in the national stadium project.

Bernard O’Byrne, the Chief Executive of the association, was one of the strongest supporters of Eircom Park and he admitted to being disappointed at a news conference held by the FAI in Dublin.

The Government proposal had included an offer of £45m to the FAI to help develop soccer in Ireland.

In a statement made in the light of the announcement, Eircom says that the decision was always up to the FAI and that they remain committed to supporting Irish sport.
