Coleman seriously injured in crash
Fulham captain Chris Coleman has sustained serious leg injuries in a car crash.
The 30-year-old Welsh international was involved in an accident in Surrey on Tuesday night in which no other vehicles were involved.
The extent of the defender's injuries were not immediately apparent but Division One leaders Fulham immediately issued a statement in which they promised to give the player their full support during the recovery process.
Managing director Michael Fiddy said: "Everyone at the club is deeply concerned about the incident involving Chris Coleman.
"At this stage our thoughts are with Chris and we wish him a speedy and full recovery. Chris will be given the best possible care to aid this recovery."
The accident is being investigated by police.
Coleman joined Fulham for £2.1m - then a club record - from Blackburn in November 1997.
The Swansea-born star was taken to the East Surrey Hospital in Redhill where he underwent emergency surgery.
A spokeswoman there confirmed he had broken his right leg but would not go into any more detail about his injuries.
She said: "His condition is satisfactory. He is comfortable and in good spirits. He is in good hands and receiving the best care he can."
His wife and other family members are understood to have visited him in his private room at the NHS hospital.
The accident means Coleman will almost certainly be out of action for the rest of the season.
