Round two of the Gain Cup 2016 dominated proceedings at Curraheen Park on Saturday night, and Sean Dunphy’s Bar The Sizzler set the standard when routing the opposition in the second heat.

The lightly raced full-sister to former Easter Cup winner North Bound had a perfect draw along the inside rail, and made the most of it with a quick exit.

As Cashen Serengeti moved right, she had the inside to herself and stretched away nicely for a clear-cut win over Creamery Robin, in 28.30.

Fastest first-round winner Jaytee Valencia took the opening heat for Paul Hennessy.

In front early, but trumped by the early dash of Greenisle Rover, the even-money favourite led again off the last bend, and pulled three clear of that rival, in 28.66.

Happy Endings, trained by Pat Leahy, Glanmire, followed up her first-round victory with a fine display in the third heat.

Fourth early, she railed well to take over as the leaders bumped a couple of times.

With high-class form over 550 yards, the Lee Strand finalist pulled away to win by three and a half lengths from Newlawn Peter, in 28.60.

Another opening-round winner, Lurriga Gold, followed up in the fourth heat.

James Roche’s bitch faced a tougher draw this time, but had the early dash to get across to the rails, from trap five.

Star Orchard and Test Me tried hard to get on terms, but were unable to do so, as the leader stayed on strongly to post 28.38.

Mary Dineen recorded a double on the card, starting with Lily Of Scart in race two. A winner over six bends, when she led early it was all but over, and she duly strode clear to record victory in 28.80.

Gift Of Patience completed the double when making light of an absence to take race six, an A2 550.

Trying the trip for the first time, the 3-1 chance flew from traps, raced three clear to the turn, and added a couple more lengths before hitting the line in 30.20.

Diamond Prince was the only odds-on chance on the card, and Tom Murphy’s July pup justified his price when leading all the way to take the first race in 29.38.

A decent blanket could have covered the six runners in the third race but it was Dermot O’Sullivan’s Belvedere Jody who stayed on best to deny fellow fast-finisher Miniconjou by half a length, in 29.31.

Charlesfield Tom, trained by Johnny Linehan for Veronica and Tom McAuliffe, ran out a comfortable winner of the night’s only sprint.

When he crossed in front of early challenger Burley Babe at the first turn, he quickly moved clear, and remained so for a five-length victory in 17.62.

Jerome Crowley’s Cheer Up Charlie is a very promising sort, and made it three wins in six outings when leading early in the fifth race.

Well drawn, next to the rails, he turned clear and pulled away to beat the staying-on Fionn Bound by four lengths, in 28.86.

In the finale Chinook Rumble, owned by Joe and Frank Long, Bandon, scored for the eighth time in his career when leading off the second bend and staying on nicely to deny Jamies Rock by a length, in 30.23 (550).
