Focused Christina McMahon travels to Zambia on world title mission

But for unbeaten Christina McMahon, it isn’t about the money — it’s the chance to match Katie Taylor and become Ireland’s second world female boxing champion.
The Monaghan native (6-0-0) meets Zambia’s undefeated (10-0-0) WBC Silver champion Catherine Phiri for the Interim WBC super-bantam crown in Lusaka, Zambia tomorrow.
McMahon was offered the fight at short notice, but she wasn’t going to turn down a world title shot.
She said: “Once we got the call, we would be ready. It is always a little more difficult to box away, especially so far away, but we were not in a position to be choosy. “
Husband and manager Martin McMahon insists there is no negativity in Christina and she was thinking nothing but victory. “ We are not thinking about losing because we came here for some serious business,” he said.
