VIDEO: Steven LoBue victorious in Portugal leg of Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series
The fifth stop in this years series took place on the islet Vila Franca do Campo near São Miguel.
For this event, divers had to leap from a rock cliff face as opposed to a specially constructed platform which is the norm in other locations.
Victory went to 29-year-old Steven LoBue from the US who narrowly missed out on the Irish title a few weeks ago to the UK's Gary Hunt.
Speaking about his performance, LoBue said: "Once I did my quint half from the platform, I had a feeling that maybe I would be able to put it all together and come away with the win."
Colombian Orlando Duque came in second with David Colturi, also of the USA, securing third.
The result sees LoBue move up to second in the overall series standings with 610 points. Duque has taken over in third with 520. Gary Hunt, who could only manage an 11th-place finish today despite winning this round at the last World Series in 2012, still leads the way on 750 points.
The divers will now take a well-earned break, before the series resumes on September 20 in Bilbao, Spain.
