Rebel’s Russian opponent placed in coma

Cork boxer Mike ‘The Rebel’ Perez’s opponent from Saturday night’s bout at Madison Square Garden in New York has been placed in a coma.

Heavyweight Magomed Abdusalamov of Russia, who lost a 10-round unanimous, was placed in a medically induced coma on Sunday following brain surgery to remove a blood clot.

The Russian is reported to be in stable condition in intensive care at Roosevelt Hospital in New York.
