Thompson finds range for Templeogue
Templeogue won last year’s U18 title and, under coach Ronan McLoughlin, followed up with their second national title in 12 months.
Favourites going into the game the Templeogue coach was always wary of the threat Killester would pose.
“Killester are a very good club and when they reach this stage of a national championship they can be tough to handle,” McLoughlin said.
“Once Luke Thompson found his range in the second half we always looked comfortable, despite Killester throwing the kitchen sink at us.”
McLoughlin believes his club may enter the Men’s SuperLeague in the coming years. “We have a good group of players and yes it would be an ambition of ours to compete with the elite as we do not want to become a nursery for [bigger] clubs,” he added.
Leading 30-21 at the break, Templeogue looked rattled in the third quarter with Ciaran Roe shooting a magnificent 15 points. The class of Thompson eventually proved the difference though, as the MVP ended up with 26 points.
