UL Eagles look to keep double dream alive against resurgent Killester

UL Eagles will be hoping keep their league and cup when they visit Killester tomorrow in the Nivea for Men’s SuperLeague play off quarter-final.

UL Eagles look to keep double dream alive against resurgent Killester

It will be a revenge game for UL coach Mark Keenan as he coached Killetser to last year’s title before being axed in the summer. But Keenan led the Limerick side to a famous win over UCC Demons in the SuperLeague National Cup final and is focused on another famous win.

“No more back or trap doors, this is the real thing as the losers’ season will immediately end and I certainly do want that to happen,” Keenan said. “Killester are an excellent side but in the four games we have played we have won two and that included our great national cup semi-final victory. I was disappointed with our performance against Belfast Star last week so it’s a case of knuckling down and getting the business done.”

Killester have had a poor season but coach Darren O’Neill firmly believes his team are the best in the country. The Dublin side defeated DCU Saints comfortably last Sunday but will have to up the tempo against this resilient Eagles side.

“It’s a winner take all scenario so I guess both teams will go for it from start to finish.”

In the other quarter-final Bord Gáis Neptune host UCD Marian and the Cork side will be expected to book a semi final berth against DCU Saints. The Neptune coach Mark Scannell is urging his team not to take their opponents for granted.

“I saw UCD Marian against UCC Demons last week and they were very impressive at various stages and we will have to be careful as this is a potential banana skin,” Scannell said.

In the Women’s SuperLeague quarter-finals Killester and Waterford Wildcats could go down to the wire and DCU Mercy should book their semi-final meeting with Team Montenotte by disposing of Meteors.
