Jermyn back in the groove
Jermyn, Ireland’s number one drag-flicker has been out since October with a fractured ankle, but showed few ill-effects as his set-piece brilliance — four of his strikes were drags, with another from play — won the day.
That will have been music to Revington’s ears, after watching his side spurn three late penalty corner chances in a 1-0 defeat to Belgium in Valencia yesterday. They play the hosts in the final game of their Spanish training camp today.
In the other men’s league match, C of I B saw off Quins B 2-1.
Meanwhile, there’ll be more northern exposure for UCC on their quest to claim the Irish Hockey Trophy after they were drawn at home to South Antrim in the semi-finals — a repeat of last year’s decider.
College are the last non-Ulster team standing after Fionn O’Leary’s brace of counter-attack goals helped them notch a superb 2-1 win away to Bangor on Saturday.
There was a further boost for the students as six of their side — O’Leary, Andrew Gray, Shrew Power, Stuart O’Grady, Adam O’Callaghan and Peter Catchpole — stopped in Dublin en route back to Cork to trial for the Irish Universities, with each getting selected for a spring tour to Scotland.
Munster’s other IHT hopes both fell at the quarter-final hurdle. Catholic Institute were ousted 4-1 at home by Donegal’s Raphoe and Bandon’s women lost 2-0 to Greenfields.
The most significant result in the women’s league saw UCC earn some revenge for their shock home defeat to Ashton, and keep their IHL qualification hopes alive in the process.
The students eked out a 1-0 win at the Blackrock Road school, with Steffi Bowe notching the vital strike.
Munster’s top scorer Eimear Cregan hit another four goals but was, for once, outshone by a team-mate as Katie Campbell cracked in five in a 9-0 win over Cork C of I at Garryduff.
