Khan should quit moaning, blasts Lee
Khan was defeated on points and believed the fight should be discredited because the mystery person interfered with the scoring of the fight.
However, Lee has laughed off Khan’s complaints, after the unnamed person was identified as Mustafa Ameen, a guest of the IBF.
“They were so naive, fighting Lamont Petersen in his hometown,” said Lee.
“He [Khan] was on about fighting Mayweather, he totally disregarded this guy Peterson. You gotta know when your going into a guy’s hometown that it’s dangerous and there’s a lot at stake.
“In some ways he seems to be in denial. He can’t seem to believe it’s happened and I think he is trying to save face. If the commission say there was tampering with the scoring by the mystery person, it’s gonna bring the sport into disrepute and they don’t want a black eye.”
Lee, who will fight on the undercard to the Matthew Macklin-Sergio Martinez title fight at Madison Square Garden on March 17, admitted he is frustrated with the politics that have dogged the sport.
“Definitely,” he stressed.
“That is the hardest part of boxing. It’s the most frustrating thing about the sport. Guys who never boxed in their lives are in there making decisions about your career, you go through so much pain in the gym and the ring and some fella in a suit makes a call on your future.”
Though he will fight in New York before what is expected to be a bumper Irish support, Lee said he was disappointed not to have got a world title shot.
“It was between me and Macklin [for the Martinez fight]. It was up in the air. I was pretty annoyed that I didn’t get to fight. Sometimes it’s about money, sometimes the promoter will make the decision and the promoter makes the decision sometimes too, sometimes the TV executives get to decide who fights based on who they want to see.
“I don’t get to be privy to these meetings. It’s frustrating. A lot of time you don’t get what you deserve, I am annoyed to be fighting in the undercard. I believe my time will come, though.
“The way it is now, I have the date (for next fight), so it’s full throttle training, the opponent will sort itself out. I like knowing because I know what I have to do.
“I’m ready now but after another fight I’ll be even more ready. It will be another fight for me and more of a learning experience.”
The WBC have him ranked number six, the WBA number two, and WBO first, so he has all the credentials needed for a shot at a world title.
