Glanmire overpower Galway rivals
In a game that failed to ignite, the Cork side blitzed their opponents who struggled to make any impact.
The shooting of Clodagh Scannell proved the difference between the sides and it was no surprise that her 30 points contribution helped her to the MVP.
Scannell’s three point shooting helped Glanmire into a 19-9 lead in the opening quarter.
The trend of the game did not change in the second period but the tenacity of Claregalway’s Ciara Newell kept her side within reach, despite trailing 35-23 at the interval.
On the restart, Glanmire tore their opponents to shreds with Laoise Murphy and Amy Winning both shooting well-taken three pointers.
Claregalway never recovered from those scores as Glanmire steamrolled them time and time again, and it was no surprise that their lead had increased to 26 points entering the final quarter.
The westerners continued to chase the game as the minutes ticked away, but it proved all in vain as Glanmire ran out comfortable winners much to the delight of coach Mark Scannell.
He said: “We went into this final with a game plan and it worked to perfection because when you play defence as we did through the game, there is every chance you will win finals of this importance.”
