Hayes brace seals Roscrea victory

CENTRE Declan Hayes supplied two breakaway tries to send Cistercian College Roscrea to a 19-5 win over Pres Bray and into the Leinster Schools Section B Fr Godfrey Cup final at Naas yesterday.

Pres were wind assisted in the first-half but they were rocked when Hayes sprinted away from an intercept. Out-half Jack O’Connell added the points from the conversion. Although David Cleary made it interesting when going over with he last play of the half Jamie O’Halloran and Hayes sealed the issue with second-half tries.

Naas CBS will wake up this morning with the memory of what might have been following their 5-3 semi-final loss to King’s Hospital at Castleknock.

They held KH scoreless into the wind in the first thirty, went into the lead through a penalty from centre Adam Denvir and restricted the winners to one chance in the second-half. But then David Potterton sent winger Vincent Lam over in the corner for a lead that KH would never relinquish.
