Punctuality not a strong point for Dublin GAA supporters
I appreciate that the GAA must take their lead from the gardaĂ, who decide when itâs unsafe to begin a game because of the possibility that people may form a crush at one of the turnstiles.
However, it must be galling for people who must journey over 100 miles, and sometimes over 200 miles, to support their counties, to watch drunken louts wander in whenever it suits them â and to be facilitated in so doing with a later throw-in.
Iâm aware that thereâs a general feeling that somehow the Dubs winning an All-Ireland would be âgood for the gameâ, or âgood for the GAAâ. It wouldnât be very good for punctuality all over the country, but then whatever Dublin wants it usually gets, in all spheres of life.

PS: I was greatly amused to see the Dubs mouthing off to their Westmeath opponents in Saturdayâs game, particularly Shane Ryan and Bryan Cullen. I donât remember the Dublin players being quite as brave when Tommy Lyons held them back from going into the tunnel with the Armagh players a few years ago: they didnât seem quite as quick to start chirping at their opponents then!
