Schu welcomes break

World champion Michael Schumacher has welcomed Formula One’s summer break as a chance for his dominant Ferrari team to recharge their batteries.

Schumacher, who has won 11 out of 12 races this season, admits he could continue racing without the enforced rest.

But the German is concerned that his team need time to relax and put their feet up after an arduous season.

He said: “I would gladly put an end to the summer break. But for the engineers and mechanics, the break is a hard-earned blessing.

“Their hard work in the past weeks means their family has come second.”
