NUMBER TWO ROLE: Kevin Walsh, Ger Gilroy, Andy Moran, Mickey Graham and Cian O'Neill have all gone on from manager role to coaching roles.

After Ronan McCarthy stepped away as Cork football manager in 2021, the county board invited applications from outside the county for the first time ever. The board did speak with some outside managers to see if they were interested and, while Kevin Walsh was on that long wish list, he wasn’t one of those contacted.

In any case, Walsh didn’t apply for the job. After 11 years managing Sligo and Galway in a 12-year period between 2008-2019, Walsh had a different focus around potentially getting back involved in the inter-county scene.
