Nights like Saturday are what we dream of during those long winter evenings when we wonder if the summer will ever come.

Magic. Bliss. Summer Saturday evenings on the road to nirvana. On my way down to Waterford on Saturday, I was tuned in to the Wexford-Galway match on South East Radio with Liam Spratt and his two sidekicks, a highly excited Billy Byrne and a very hoarse Tom Dempsey. Tom must have been singing on Friday night. If he wasn’t, he definitely was on Saturday night.

It was great entertainment on the way in to Walsh Park. On my way out, my head was spinning after the drama and excitement ignited into a blaze. On my way back up the road, my head was totally scrambled as I tried to work out the permutations and what this all might mean yet in Munster and Leinster. You’d nearly need to be a nuclear physicist to get all the sums right.
